FMA provides its clients with a highly detailed Key Cost Driver Report for each specialty/condition combination (episode group) selected from the Cost Analysis Blueprint. While the Cost Analysis and Potential Cost Savings Blueprint give a summary view of costs associated with variation, the Key Cost Driver Report provides, in detail, the underlying data, down to the service level.
Key Cost Driver Reports are created using FMA's patented Medical Practice Pattern Tool™, or MPPT™. The MPPT transforms grouped episode data into tables and graphs showing the medical practice pattern variation of key cost drivers for a given condition and specialty. The MPPT finds the key cost drivers by aggregating data, removing special cause variation, and establishing significant cost thresholds. What is left are the few, important cost drivers on which attention should be focused. Those services can then be understood in terms of appropriate use, misuse, or overuse, thereby connecting costs to quality.
Key Cost Driver Reports contain specific, focused action items for the client. This information can be used in a variety of programs, such as physician profiling, pay for performance, consumer direct health plans, and more.
